Cause Area: Healthcare

At Edwards Lifesciences, commitment to the community runs deep. Our company is committed to giving back more to the community than we take, and this culture of giving materializes in grant donations from our Foundation, product donations from our business, and, notably, the time of our employee volunteers. Our company has an aspiration that 100% of our 12,000+ global employees will do at least one charitable activity every year and that passionate engagement strengthens our community. We are proud that currently 77% of our employees report that they do just that.

Mobilizing, inspiring, and leading 12,000 employees as they seek effective and impactful ways to give back to the community is a huge undertaking and this movement is advancing because of our employee volunteer leaders. This volunteer leaders aren’t just altruistic donors of THEIR time, but they act as a liaison of Edwards engagement and support in communities where we live and work, bringing our people to address needs by leading and organizing volunteer events and inspiring and rallying around Edwards’ culture of giving, promoting a rich philanthropic culture throughout teams and offices.

In 2018, Edwards’ Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), organizations that lead communities of employees from similar backgrounds/interest areas in representing that employee group in the community, made a commitment in their charter to give back. This commitment is spearheaded by one employee volunteer leader at each ERG, who strategically drives their community of employees to give back in a way that THEY are passionate about.

This group of individuals includes Reginald Santos. Reginald is a volunteer leader for Rainbow Alliance, which has lead various activities and awareness activities for LGBT Center of Orange County, Radiant Health Centers and Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).

We are grateful for this group of community volunteer leaders who haven’t just demonstrated the power of giving back, but have lead teams and groups of like-minded individuals to find ways to engage with and support our local community.

Bob Sinclair

Sinclair.Bob1.Youth Employment Service (YES)

Honoree: Bob Sinclair

Honored by: Youth Employment Service (YES)

Cause Area: Economic and Workforce Development

Bob has been volunteering with Youth Employment Service (YES) for many years. He is one of our most active, consistent, and dependable mock interview volunteers. We always look forward to Bob’s weekly volunteer visits. He carries such joy and a sense of humor that brightens up every room he walks in to. He makes our program stronger by offering our clients a deeper look inside themselves to help our clients seek and land jobs they are well-suited for.

His passion for helping our youth and young adults is beautifully illustrated through the manner in which he works with each young adult. We appreciate the way that he takes time for each young adult to help them really develop their stories, to identify their skills, and to teach them how to effectively communicate them.

Bob isn’t merely interested in helping our youth find jobs, but rather, focuses on teaching and developing the skills that they will need to continue to be successful in life. His heart for each young adult is evident, and he leaves YES candidates feeling more empowered, and confident in their ability to lead a life that they love.

Bob’s heart for service and passion for helping young people depicts a man who truly lives with the Spirit of Volunteerism. We are incredibly grateful for Bob’s commitment to YES and his heart for our youth; and it is with great pleasure that we present him as a nominee for the 2019 OneOC Spirit of Volunteerism Award.
